Capture 14

In the last week or so I helped Connor in making the DCP's for Capture 14, this consists of exporting them from davinci as a Tiff, then converting those in open DCP to jpeg2000's then those into one XML file and the separate sound files into and XML file and finally those to together convert into the final DCP. I worked on the stings, the 8 second clips between the films and they took about half an hour to convert. Connor worked on the films themselves and must have taken hours.

I also decided to do the photography for the event. I wanted every crew and cast to get pictures in front of their posters, but we couldn't really get as nice poster steup for the backdrop and people didn't seem that bothered. I took a few photos of the event as it went on and hung around afterwards for people to get photos but I honestly didn't work too hard, I wanted to enjoy the night too.

And I did! Capture 14 was great. The films came out really nicely and the audience response was just what we were looking for. I think Paper Chase looked nicer than Flatline but am happy with them both. Getting the applause after the films was really gratifying and the night was a great end to the course.

Pickups with Dan

Today me and Dan met with Courtney and his dad to get a load of delivery pickups, we need them to make the montage last as long as the music Dan has chosen.. We decided to shoot in Dan's home town, Wombwell so that we could get those doorway pickups too. Dan was confident that his dogs could also play a few funny roles and to his and their credit they played their part perfectly. We unfortunately couldn't get the bag for the shoot because we hadnt seen Alex but we did get a lot of nice shots.

When shooting both interiors and exteriors we kept our minds really open and just tried a few things that worked really nicely. It was pretty calm and just a really nice day of shooting. The scenery fitted nicely with Bamford so I'm sure there will no continuity issues with that I just hope the bag being missing isnt too much of a problem, it would be a shame to lose so much good footage.

Shooting day 4.

Its hard to comment exactly on shooting day 4 because I wasn't there, because of the scheduling problems with the kids I was too busy. Connor Elliott stepped in because I trusted him and he was happy to do it. I talked over the story board section he would be shooting (the training montage and scenes in Nathans house). He was happy to do it and seemed to know what I wanted. He asked if he could shoot other stuff as well and I said of course, if you think of something good get it! The more the better.

Shooting Day 3

My final day of shooting on Paper Chase! It was quite a fun day, we had the bus stop scene and the delivery montage to film and I enjoyed a lot of the shooting we did. The bus stop was probable the most conventional shot reverse shot I have done, it was nice to do something that simple. Dan wanted to shoot some of it a little differently but in one of our meeting I made sure everyone was ok with the shotlist and we didnt have time to plan and shoot more than the storyboard allowed so I simply told him no.

the montage was shotlisted and storyboarded but Alex couldn't find any locations similar to the ones in the shotlist so we just walked around for a few hours grabbing things when we thought they looked nice. I think we got some good and some bad stuff but hopefully there should be enough good to make a decent montage.
